Jerry Green Dog Rescue centre for unwanted and abandoned dogs near Hull is to be refurbished after East Riding of Yorkshire Council gave the go-ahead to a development project.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue Centre, Gilberdyke is to get a new reception area, staff room and training barn as part of the redevelopment.
It will also get two new ‘meet and match’ rooms where potential adopters are matched with homeless dogs in a calm and quiet environment .
Building work is expected to start early April and the project should be completed by the summer. The centre will remain fully open during the works.
“We were very pleased to get full planning consent for the project last week and we’re now looking to award the building contracts,” said Howard Bridges, Head of Estates at Jerry Green Dog Rescue.
“The project will redevelop existing buildings and provide us with a new reception area, two new meet and match rooms, two isolation kennelsto prevent the spread of disease on site, a new staff room and a new manager’s office.
“We will also be building a new training barn which will provide indoor facilities for staff training, training dogs and dog training schools for members of the public.
“Once it’s finished the refurbishment will provide a much better experience both for the dogs we care for and for visitors, members of staff and volunteers.”
