We fund research into childhood cancer to save and improve young lives

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My story is quite simple. First time I met CANCER when I saw my grandma wearing special bra. I was a young girl and did not really realize why she had only one breast.

Second time CANCER came into my life when I was 23 year old. I had enlarged thyroid gland. I did not feel ill or uncomfortable in any other way. It happened during my bachelor degree. And here comes the most frightening danger of this illness. Imagine - a student with a life full of interesting lectures, part time job, I did not pay attention to my health. No temperature, no problem!

After ultrasonography, 5 days after my 25-th birthday, I had a surgery and the gland was fully cut out.

My story did not end 5 years ago. 2 years later CANCER came into my life third time. It came in the most dangerous way for a woman - cervical cancer. Two surgeries in the row and if someday I will have a baby I will be grateful for this gift.

That’s why I am fundraising for Children with Cancer UK Charity. I know how cancer treatment could be painful can’t imagine how brave every child must be when he or she goes through this process. This organization working to develop safer, kinder & more effective childhood cancer therapies, with fewer toxic side effects.

About the race:

This run features remote Scottish glens, technical single track, airy ridges and high mountain passes. During 52 km I will have 4 km elevation gained.. This race will be the hardest adventure I have ever participated.  And every penny from your donation will help me to survive the preparation and will keep me going during the race itself!

I am not a pro in social media, but I will try to add as much information and updates about my preparation as possible!

Let’s make children’s life less painful!

——————————————————————

I am slow, but I am stubborn. This year journey is over.
In such crazy pandemic situation with all over the world, for is very important what I have achieved. Initial race Skyline Scotland has been cancelled, as all my others races, but I continued my preparation. Running an ultra means doing long distances almost every week spending 8-10 hours only running + additional strength work, yoga and other exercises to improve core muscles. It takes the hell amount of time, but I like it because I believe that careful preparation is the key to success. I had a lot of questions like “for what you are training for?” I didn’t know. I simply wanted to improve my fitness and to be ready... And it happened! In August I found that ultra x received the permission from English Athletics Federation and 50 km ultra will happen in Peak District... at the same date as Skyline Scotland was suppose to take place! Of course I signed in!
On Saturday morning I took a bus to Manchester. There I had a pre-race pasta party and on Sunday morning I travelled to Edale by train. There organisers picked up us by microbus and brought to the starting point. As part of the Covid 19 restrictions this race had separate start - 2 participants were starting every 30 seconds. I started slowly because morning was very cold and I didn’t want to get injured on the first km of the race. In few hours the weather improved and I begin to enjoy the nature around me. The route had some hard ascents (including Peak District highest point - Men Tor), technical descents, beautiful valleys and incredible woods. Being a runner originally coming from very flat country Latvia, and running in such amazing part of England was feeling as a real gift.
After 6:29 minutes I successfully finished and came second among 33 women and 17 among 95 participants overall. The time for such distance in such terrain is not really fast, but I am very proud of my result because I was moving and smiling from the start to the finish and I enjoyed every single step.
I wish that all people who are fighting the cancer to be the same as I - slow and stubborn and to win their fights
