Story
We are raising money for UCLan charity ‘Foundation’ which raises money for both vulnerable students (Harris fund) and the African Midwifery fund. Our sponsored walk will only be raising funds for the African Midwifery fund within UCLan Foundation – any contributions you make will help improve maternity care in Africa’
We want to make a stand against maternal and infant mortality in Sub-Saharan Africa where 4.4 million children die before there 5th birthday, and 1 in 16 women die from pregnancy complications.
This fund, enables midwives from Sub-Saharan Africa to participate in a MSc in Midwifery and Women's Health that is designed with, and planned by, African Midwives. The aim is for these Midwives to then pass on their knowledge to other skilled women in order to increase the number of skilled workers that give care to mothers and babies in this region.
Completed via Distance Learning, this means that these that these much needed skills are enhanced and retained in the areas that need them so much.
This is why we are so passionate about this. The International Day of the Midwife on May 5th 2012 seems the perfect opportunity to raise the profile of such a worthwhile, life changing and life saving cause.
Thank you for supporting us to make a positive difference to our World.
