Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.

Katia's greatest pleasure was being Nonna to her grandson Ennio, her pride and joy, who was born prematurely in 2020, spending his first seven weeks under the care of the wonderful UHW Cardiff Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team, to whom Katia was forever grateful.

The Special Care Infant Parent Support (SCIPS) charity assists UHW NICU to support babies and families on the unit. Together, their work is invaluable.

Katia would be so very happy to know that she, in some small way, is helping other families meet and care for their own prides and joys, so we wholeheartedly thank you for any donation made in her memory.

With the guidance of the UHW NICU and SCIPS, once the piece of equipment for the benefit of the babies is chosen and in situ, we will be sure to share details of it on this page.

Thank you so much,

Katia's family

SCIPS was set up to support parents whose babies require neonatal intensive care services at The University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. Money raised is used not only for vital life saving equipment, but also for the extra little touches, such as soft furnishings for the nurseries and parent areas, keepsake boxes, bereavement packs, first diaries and nursey fittings etc. Anything to make the parents and siblings stay on the unit a bit easier. We contribute to the Annual Remembrance Service for loved and lost babies. Volunteers help the charity to hold social events to bring families together throughout the year. This includes monthly coffee mornings, Easter Egg hunt, Teddy Bear’s picnic & Christmas party for parents to come together, share their experiences and offer support to one another. SCIPS also supports training and education needs of the staff on the unit.
