Anyone that wants to take part is welcome!
Date - Saturday 23rd February
Ian Johnson was an inspiration and father figure to many, he devoted his life to mentor children.
Group Scout Leader Ian Johnson, who was announced was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in Her Majesty’s the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. Ian received this award for services to the community of Leigh-on-Sea for the outstanding work and commitment he has given over the past 50 years as a Scout Leader, member of St. John’s Ambulance, School Governor for West Leigh Junior School, 40 years of service with Essex Fire and Rescue Service, and the many committees and events he has assisted with Leigh Town Council over the years.
For me personally while a Scout for many years, Ian would take me and Angus swimming every Tuesday without fail, I still remember climbing trying to push him under, before he swiftly dunked me. Sweets after and the blue Volvo, are close to my heart.
For Angus, Ian gave him support and guidance after the loss of his mum, and dedicated time to guide him and his brothers.
We both owe Ian a huge debt of gratitude as we don't have enough fingers and toe's between us to name all of the life skills Ian taught us. One thing i'll never forget on the Norfolk Broads trip some years back his words "If they ask your old enough, quick beer before we head back to the boat".
For people that know me and Angus, Angus is a Personal trainer, dedicated athlete and as fit as a fiddle, then there's me......! This will be a huge challenge but for a great cause.
We plan to donate monies raised between 3rd Chalkwell Bay Sea Scouts and the St John's Ambulance.
We thank you for your donation.
