Story
Due to Covid19 thousands of seafarers are currently stranded at sea working for many weeks and months longer than they should, due to the simple fact they can't travel home and those seafarers due to replace them can't do so. As a former Naval Officer, maritime communications director, husband and father, their situation is close to my heart.
By committing to walking twice as far as I usually do (400K steps in 31 days = 13K steps per day, my average since Jan 21 is <6K steps per day) I aim to raise awareness for their plight, plus some additional funds for The Seafarers' Charity, and in the process also reduce the lock-down excess that has built up around my own equator!
The Seafarers’ Charity (formerly Seafarers UK), has been improving the lives of seafarers and their families for over 100 years. They started as the King George’s Fund for Sailors, providing vital assistance in troubled times and continue to be guided by this same powerful vision. Through grant-giving, they bring about a life-changing impact for those who work – or have worked – at sea, and their families.
