Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Anencephaly is a neural tube defect that develops during the first few weeks of a pregnancy, and is essentially a fatal condition in which a child diagnosed will have a very limited life expectancy, usually only hours following birth, due to a malformation of the child's cephalic (top of head, skull and brain) region.
Since last year I have looked to help raise awareness of SHINE's anencephaly support group through holding a fundraising challenge month. My wife and I have unfortunately had a number of pregnancies over the past few years in which anencephaly was diagnosed and until we found SHINE's support group felt that there had been limited UK based support networks available for anyone affected by this condition, we feel that had such a support group been available to us when we needed it most, may have helped to make a the most difficult time of our lives that small part easier to cope with.
This year I'm looking to run 5 10K runs throughout famous parts of the city of Liverpool including Sefton/Stanley Park, Goodison/Anfield stadiums and the cities waterfront during the month of February.
All money raised being donated to SHINE. Last years challenge month helped raise an amazing and well above target £426 for the support group, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkfWzd1u70k.
This is a group for anyone affected by the loss of a child due to the diagnosis of anencephaly during pregnancy. The group is managed by Shine, with the help of voluntary administrators such as myself. We are in the unique position of being able to offer the support of health professional's from within the group who are on hand to help with any medical concerns, providing both advice and non judgemental support to those who need it.
