Story

Hounslow Action for Youth are fundraising to provide curated well-being packs to vulnerable young people and their families.

Having an internet connection can be a vital lifeline during the current social isolation however, many of our families do not have Wi-Fi and computers at home. Nor do many have gardens or access to a safe outside space where they can stretch their legs.

These families are in urgent need of stimulating activities that sustain their development, learning and emotional well-being.

We want to provide families with home learning packs that will be customised to meet the needs of individual families according to the ages of the children, interests, and the family situation. The packs will contain family learning activities, as well as art and crafts to support the mental and emotional well-being of the young people.

We are purchasing items for wellbeing packs through trusted and ethical suppliers which are delivered directly to families.

We are targeting the most vulnerable children who are living in challenging home environments and have limited resources. This includes young people with disabilities, behaviour difficulties, ADHD, and families with mental health difficulties.

We are supporting families like the Z Family. A single mum with three children who live in a cramped two bedroom flat on the sixth floor with no outdoor space. One of her children is on the autistic spectrum and the other two have ADHD. Mum struggles financially and she is unable to provide resources for the family during social isolation. As a consequence, she has reported that the children are now suffering from insomnia and anxiety and she is struggling to cope.

The family do not have Wi-Fi or computers, and they keep asking her when they can come back to our after school and week-end activities. We posted our home learning well-being pack to them last week and are providing weekly telephone support to the mother.

Mum says: ‘this keeps them busy for several hours in the day and wears them out so they’re now sleeping better and that gives me hope that things will get better. I couldn’t go on the way we were before. No way.

Please help us support vulnerable children through this challenging time.

We have a wonderful eco-therapy project on our allotment lined up for summer and autumn, once social isolation is over.

Let’s work together and help them to get through this.

A donation of £5 will provide a resource pack for one child. A donation of £20 will provide a resource pack for one family.

Donations of any size are welcome, everything helps.

Feel free to contact our project managers for any further information. Every Penny raised will be used ONLY for resource packs.
