!WINNERS! ‘2020 TES Independent School Awards –
Whole School Community Initiative’.
We are incredibly proud that our school, Highfield Prep, has recently gained national recognition for all our work with
our partner school – Way of Salvation Primary in Bombo, Uganda.
This was a fantastic acknowledgement of
everything that has been done but it really only serves to spur us on to
further develop and strengthen this incredibly important link.
As the Bombo community is a little over 4,000 miles from the Highfield Community, we are committing to a ‘BOMBO 4K’ challenge this year and we would really appreciate any help and support from our friends. We will be undertaking four, varied challenges and we need your sponsorship.
Our challenges are:
· GINNY'S BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR BOMBO
– Stop by the Tracy family's home on Friday the 28th of February for drinks, food, friends and fun, No gifts, no bottles, no flowers, just a donation!
· MYSTERY EVENT (!) – As a very public gesture of our commitment, we will reveal our mystery event in a school assembly under the watchful eye of John Bunjo (founder of CRMI).
· SCAFELL PIKE 4 – In one weekend (May16/17), we will climb England’s highest peak four times. Not just to the top, but all the
way back down as well…
· SWIM 4K – A tag team swim of 4KM in the HLC pool
· WALK 4 BOMBO – The pupils of Highfield will get involved with an afternoon of fun and frolics whilst completing laps of the HLC field.
All the money we raise will go to the CRMI charity which runs Way of Salvation Primary in Bombo and will be spent as follows:
1. Teacher Training – some of the funds will be allocated to supporting teacher training at Way of Salvation; this will include helping support Peter Frost to spend a week in school working with the teachers as well as providing additional classroom resources to support the teachers.
2. New Classrooms – The new classrooms continue to emerge on the school field and the rest of your kind support will go to help this important project.
Supporting the education of the pupils at Way of Salvation remains at the heart of all our efforts to support the school and teacher training is a central part of that work. The importance of this is reflected in the following testimonies from Juliet Burd and parents who have visited the school:
‘Teacher training provides many benefits to both schools that we have built and also schools within the local community. As a charity, we attempt to provide the best possible service to the communities where we work. Good quality teacher training impacts directly on the education
of many children who pass through the classes of these teachers. We are privileged to be part of children’s education and to do this well provides a legacy that will last well into the future.’
(Juliet Burd, UK Director, CRMI)
'Having observed Peter conduct teacher training at Way of Salvation Primary school, I believe that the teachers will greatly benefit from this sharing of methods and ideas. Their enthusiasm to learn was obvious and will encourage new ways to ignite the passion for learning in their students. This can only benefit the community as a whole, as the children become more excited to learn and share their thoughts and ideas. The joy of learning is contagious in both the teachers and their students. I think it is wonderful that our two communities can work together and benefit from each other and I am convinced that this ongoing training partnership will produce long term benefits.'

'I was very moved to observe Peter's training sessions with the teaching team in Uganda - the way he connected, reached and inspired them on so many levels. He formed strong bonds by promoting and helping them to develop new teaching strategies which will clearly have a huge
impact on the learning of the children at Way of Salvation Primary. This made clear to me the power education has to shape and transform lives and how important it is to share ideas not just about what to teach but how to teach. The teachers' training plays a vital role in emerging countries and I am happy to support any initiatives around teacher training.'
