Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We wanted to help raise some funds for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Trust at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. This is where our beautiful baby Henry was looked after during his short life with us.
The support provided to Henry was incredibly caring and compassionate. This also extended to us and without a doubt, this helped us through the very difficult days of Henry’s life and passing.
We were fortunate that Chelsea and Westminster is our local hospital, as the NICU is a level 3 neonatal unit (a unit that provides the highest level of care available for babies). Most families we met here travelled in daily from much further afield, as their babies needed to be transferred in from the surrounding regions.
In addition to the exceptional facilities and medical care from the NHS staff, nurses and doctors, there were other simple things that really made a difference. This included on-site accommodation provided during the most critical nights, food provisions and space in the parent’s room, and volunteers who were there to guide and listen. Many of these things were supported by past donations towards NICU.
We feel that support for families who find themselves in similar positions to us in the future, especially those who may need to travel significant distances every day, can go a long way. We look forward to identifying with CW+ (the hospital’s charity) how best to use any funds collected for the NICU. However, we know that any funds no matter how big or small, will be meaningful in helping to support families in distress during these life-changing moments in their baby’s first few hours, days or weeks, no matter how short or long their lives may be.
Thank you so much for your contribution.
