Story
Hendon United Sports Club A have been the most successful Jewish football club over the past 20 years.
For the past however long, Hendon's seasons have ended with trophies, commendations and great memories. But there is often a feeling of emptiness, that something is missing. When the boots are stored away and the net has stopped rippling, what did it all mean?
To address that feeling and to make our contribution to the community, the squad agreed that they would nominate a charity and make a collective donation, the size of which would be directly related to our success.
For every goal conceded, a pound from each defender would be donated. And for every goal scored, a pound from each forward would be donated. Midfielders could decide which way to play depending on whether they dream of scoring goals or making tackles.
Since the scheme was announced in Februrary 2021, Hendon have scored 30 goals and conceded 27.
At our level of football, fitness is really important. Manage your fitness right and you do well, disrespect it and you don't. The same could be said about our mental fitness. As a team we're all aware of the mental health taboo amongst men, which is now thankfully becoming a thing of the past, and we're keen to be vocal about how important it is to be mindful and honest about our mental health and those of our teammates and the wider community. This made supporting Jami a no-brainer.
