Over 30 million people 'one step away from starvation', UN warns
The pandemic, climate crisis and conflict combining to drive ‘alarming’ levels of global hunger, says report
Around the globe, millions of families simply survive day-to-day amid dire poverty and suffering. Each day, their lives and livelihoods are threatened by hardships many of us would find hard to imagine…
Today, the situation in Yemen could not be more critical. Without more help, the UN has warned that millions face malnutrition and starvation. The world’s worst humanitarian crisis deepens and now vital funding has been cut, and Yemen is on the verge of extinction.
Over 6.5 million Syrians need food to survive. Medicine is running out. Hospitals are being bombed. Doctors are working by torchlight. With half of all healthcare facilities shut, services are stretched to the brink, diseases can spiral, and the most vulnerable people are put at even greater risk.
Hospitals in Gaza are overwhelmed as they struggle to cope with bombings, injuries, COVID-19, medicine shortages, and 20-hour power cuts.
Not only does coronavirus still pose a threat to the health of the world’s vulnerable populations, its disruption to everyday life has destroyed already-weak economies and plunge millions even further into a spiral of poverty and deprivation.
You may feel helpless in this unprecedented struggle, but though we’re all scattered across the globe, we all share the same humanity 🌍💜
With compassion and kindness our collective human spirit can save the world from the worst effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
