Story

Update!

Since the head shave, I have decided to keep my hair short until I hit the 10k mark. Young Epilepsy is such an important charity to me and I want to do all I can to raise as much money as possible. I shall be doing this by partaking in non-profit photography studio events, modelling at workshops and sponsored runs/walks. Any help with fundraising activities/advice or by donating whatever you can spare or even spreading the word, it will be very much appreciated!

On the 28th March 2016, I will be shaving my hair off to a grade 2 for Young Epilepsy.

As a professional model, shaving my hair is probably one of the most dramatic things I can do... without having to jump off anything or run a REALLY long way... bahahaha. (in all seriousness, I do not want to commit to anything very physical which could affect my health).

As you may or may not already know, I have suffered with epilepsy to a certain extent from birth, which over time got worse. I experienced my first Tonic-Clonic (Grand Mal) seizure at the age of 19. Despite showing clear signs of epilepsy, it remained un-diagnosed until the age of 23. I feel that this was because of a huge lack of awareness of different manifestations of this complex, yet extremely common illness.

Although I have seen a huge improvement towards the general understanding of epilepsy, I still feel more needs to be done and there are still many common misconceptions and myths regarding this condition.

The reason why I have decided to raise money for Young Epilepsy is not only for the amazing work they do to help children with epilepsy, but also for their commitment to continually raise awareness and for the support and information they offer friends and families. After going through a difficult time as a child and young adult, knowing that something was wrong with me, but without knowing what, I feel that by supporting a charity such as Young Epilepsy, I can hope that fewer children will have to struggle through their childhoods because of condition so common as epilepsy.
