My sister Jessica and I have decided to set this page up today 11th April 2021 on what would have been our mum Helen's 69th birthday.

She passed away quite suddenly on 18th February this year after being diagnosed with cancer. No words will ever convey just how much we miss her.
She showed no symptoms other than back pain, that resembled a trapped nerve, for months before her death. On the 4th February while staying with her sister in Yorkshire she was admitted to Hull Royal Infirmary with a suspected pulmonary embolism. However after further tests on 6th February she was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. Just 12 days later she passed away.

She spent her last few days at Dove House Hospice where we were all treated with extraordinary kindness, compassion and understanding. We are now hoping to raise as much money as possible so that people continue to receive this invaluable and important support. Until we needed such help and support , we didn’t fully appreciate or understand the importance of a hospice. We actually saw a hospice as a place of sadness, but now having spent mum's final days with her at Dove House we appreciate that a hospice is an invaluable place of peace.
We never expected to be visiting a hospice but now that we have we understand what an important role it plays in supporting individuals and families through end of life care; and, of course, the majority of their funding comes from charity and fund raising.

Jess and I have decided, therefore, to challenge ourselves to walk the 180 miles from Crosby, Merseyside (where our mum lived) to Dove House Hospice in Hull across the Transpenine Trail. We will be setting off on 2nd April 2022 and hopefully arriving in Hull on 11th April 2022 on what would have been mum’s 70th birthday.

We would like to thank you in advance for your support and donations. We will be using this page to update on our training and progress throughout the coming months and then on our progress throughout the 180 mile walk.

Love and thanks from
Alex and Jess xx
