As many of you may already know, our family’s life all changed nearly 2 years ago when our daughter Kyra was rushed to hospital. We didn’t realise how very close we all were to losing her and after the initial shock, we subsequently found out that she was diagnosed as being a Type 1 Diabetic.  We knew nothing about what it meant to live with a Type 1 Diabetic and how difficult life would become for us all. 

Kyra has coped so very well, but it has not been without countless hours, days and months of tears and emotions. Questions as to why her? What did we do wrong? What can we do to make it better? We have managed and cared for Kyra and I have to say being a carer to a hormonal young lady is exhausting. We were then given the amazing opportunity to have Kyra added to a puppy program to be allocated a Hypo hound. These puppies are assistance dogs that potentially could save her life. There have been nights that Kyra has drifted into a deep sleep, with her blood sugar levels dropping so low that she could be an hour away from losing consciousness and then being rushed to hospital.  A puppy could save Kyra’s life and hopefully give me peace of mind to allow me to sleep at night, without the fear of what if.
