Time for a new challenge!
Together with Alex and two friends, Chris and Adam, we are going to be attempting to paddle 100km (60miles) over 4 days across Scotland from Fort William to Inverness; the route uses the Caledonian Canal, Loch Lochy, Loch Oich, and the length of Loch Ness; it includes 29 locks and is mainly on open water.
We are going to be self supported, ie taking everything we need and camping each night.
We have been training hard, both in the canoe and the gym but it is Scotland, in April and the weather is going to be a challenge!
We are taking on the challenge as usual for Dreamflight, the charity that I am lucky enough to have been part of for the last 10 years. Dreamflight has not been able to run its annual trip for the last 2 years for obvious reasons but things are looking hopeful for this year and plans are underway to once again take another 192 very deserving children to the theme parks in Orlando for a 10 day trip of a lifetime. The children selected for Dreamflight come from all over the UK and have been nominated by a medical professional because of their life threatening or life limiting condition or disability. The aim of the trip is for the children to gain some independence and confidence and most of all to have fun. Their lives very often revolve around medical procedures, treatment and hospital visits and a trip of this kind would be very challenging for families to facilitate, however Dreamflight manages this with the support of a huge number of Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists all of whom volunteer their time to ensure the children are kept safe and well to enjoy this magical experience.
To read more about Dreamflight, here's a story from one of the children on the last trip in 2019.

Thank you for reading, wish us luck and hopefully you'll be able to once again support this wonderful charity that means such a lot to me and my family. Helen xx
