Story

Thank you very much for visiting our Just Giving page.

2016 have been a fantastic year for Danny and I, where we attended many big runs:

Adidas Half Marathon in March 2016 - Done! I did it in 2 hours and 55 mins!  Danny sadly couldn't run due to Knee Injury.

Shakespeare Half Marathon in April 2016 - Done! Danny and I crossed the finish line in 2 hours and 43 mins! :)

St. Albans Half Marathon in June 2016 - Done! I did it in 2 hours, 50 mins and 12 secs, and Danny did it in 2 hours, 50 mins and 13 secs! :)

Wales Half Marathon in July 2016 - Done! We did it in 3 hours, 3 mins and 3 secs! :)

Disneyland Paris Half Marathon in September 2016 - Done! I did it in 3 hours, 26 mins and 42 secs, and Danny did it in 3 hours, 26 mins and 44 secs! :)

Great Canal Union Half Marathon in November 2016 - We sadly couldn't run due to myself having had a mild concussion (banged my head on a car(!) and Danny's knee injury.

(We will also do a few 10K here and 5K there as part of our training so that we can be ready and prepared for the real thing!)

We have started our proper training, by following the full marathon training plan so we won't injure ourselves and will ensure that we are eating all the right foods and fuels.

We have already attended a few 10K runs in London and the Windsor Half Marathon (I did it in 3 hours and 15 mins and Danny did it in 2 hours and 45 mins!) last year.

Because we are going to many big runs, we would like to raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, which is a amazing charity, and they really do make a huge difference.

****Update****

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People have matched me with a beautiful black show x working cocker spaniel called Evie :-)

Evie is already helping me out by:

  • Making sure I'm up in the mornings so I won't be late for work and visiting friends/families (and the occasional work person to fix our tumble dryer!) as I can't hear the alarm clock
  • Alerting me when there is someone at the door
  • Helping me not to burn my cooking (haha!) - the hearing dog will alert me to any devices that beeps I.e. Washing machines, oven timers, etc
  • Making sure that I am aware if the fire alarms goes off or if there is danger
  • Leading me to the person who is calling me.
  • Coming with me to work, shops, restaurants and many more various places, so that people are aware that I am profoundly deaf.

Evie have given me the confidence to get around more easily, and already made a huge difference in my life. I wont know where I'd be without her now.

If you can, please go along to one of their open days where you will learn how they train Hearing Dogs, and watch their demonstration shows. You will also get to meet some of the lovely people who work at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, you will be amazed by how passionate they are about the charity, and how much they really want to help.

This is why we wanted to help raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, not only are they a brilliant charity, but it would be my way of saying thank you :-)

Any donation is gratefully received, and will make a real difference.

You can donate by SMS by texting HEAR84 and an amount of £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070 e.g. HEAR84 £5 to 70070.

Thank you very much!

Claire and Danny x
