Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Dyspraxia is a lifelong hidden and often misunderstood disability. It primarily affects fine and/or gross motor co-ordination. It also can affect a person's ability to process information, their memory and causes issues with perception.

When I was little, I was always slower than the other kids. I would fall over a lot, absolutely hated PE because it was my worst subject, took ages to learn how to ride a bike and tried to avoid shoe-laces at all costs. Over the years, there were several times when people mentioned that I might be dyspraxic, but I didn't really understand what Dyspraxia means and for various reasons, it never went any further. At the age of 18, I was sent to an educational psychologist, who finally diagnosed me as having dyspraxia. Having that diagnosis is crucial because it meant I could finally access the support I desperately needed.

The psychologist recommended Dyspraxia Foundation to me and they were such a God send! Their website has so much information on it, and it helped me understand that I am not just "thick" or "lazy". They also helped me to realise that my dyspraxia is part of me. It helps me be creative and think differently. It's also more common than people think! it's estimated that around 10% of the UK population has dyspraxia.

So I have decided to be a little different and think outside the box in order to fundraise for them. I am shaving my head! My hair is really long atm, way past my shoulders, so it's a MAJOR thing. However, I know that every penny I raise will go to help others like me across the country with Dyspraxia. So if you can donate, please do. Like the famous Tesco slogan, "Every Little Helps!"
