Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I would like to share my story with you all about my very brave and inspirational Mum who sadly recently lost her battle to cancer. When I was 8 years old my Mum was diagnosed with Multiple myeloma, a rare cancer of the immune system. She was always into sport and dance and regularly competed in running events, becoming the youngest ever cross country champion in Wales, therefore she always supported me in my sport and fitness interests and hobbies p, regularly supporting and taking me to competitions and race meets. When she was diagnosed she was extremely shocked and overwhelmed as she was only 40 years old, having said that, she took it in her stride and did her best to continue to bring me, my brother and sister up to the best of her ability. We had a great life together and she gave me all I ever needed and more, she really was the best Mum I could of ever hoped for. This type of cancer affected her immune system massively, therefore she was unable to fight infection, and to help her condition she regularly had heamaglobin treatment to keep the infections and any illness away or to a minimum, this meant having white blood cells transported into her blood stream. Despite this illness she was very lucky to lead such a well fulfilled life for a further 16 years, watching me and my siblings grow up, have children, gain employment and graduate University. In February 2013 my grandad sadly suddenly passed away! My Mum was very close to her Dad and this obviously hit her hard, any kind of stress was dangerous to her condition. From that day she began to detirritate quite quickly. She attended the hospital for a check up where her consultant found that the cancer had become quickly aggressive and she needed to start chemotherapy quickly. In order to have the chemotherapy, the heamaglobin transplants had to stop. This had serious consequences as this treatment prevented any illnesses becoming as severe. Mum was doing really well on the chemotherapy and the cancer was going into remission when she suddenly woke on the 9th June 2013 and struggled to breathe. She was rushed into hospital were she suffered 4 cardiac arrests and a stroke. Mum slipped into a deep coma for a further 16 days. The doctors were baffled as to what had happened. They did test after test but found nothing, and they couldn't understand why she wouldn't wake as her heart started to beat again for itself. After 16 days and further testing they found that she had suffered sever brain damage and pulmonary consolidation (lung fluid) during the attack and stroke. It then became evident that our worst nightmare was becoming a reality. She was never going to wake up. Mum fought so very hard for 16 years and lived life to the full even up to taking her last breath she never gave up. Later on that evening at 9.00pm the doctors decided it was too un humane to carry on trying to keep her alive, her organs began to shut down and they withdrew her life support. At that moment it felt as though my life had ended. With the support of my family and wonderful partner I am now stronger than ever and ready to give something back to the Myeloma charity to help victims of this awful disease and their families. I am 23 years old and now looking forward to raising as much Money as possible for this wonderful charity and to carry on my mums memory and all that she taught me so well. I am very lucky to have had such an influential person in my life, who without, I would have never achieved the many things I have so far in My journey. My Mum would want me to do this and show that this disease does not need it destroy lives , but can bring them together in our time of need. Please donate anything you can to this charity every penny counts. Thank you so much for sharing my story.
