One day a week of music therapy allows us to support 20 children with the most need in 1 to 1 or group sessions as appropriate for them. Music therapy uses music and sounds where words may be difficult to find.

Story

Due to a genetic condition, Imogen is totally blind and has a slight hearing loss. She has severe global development delay and uses a wheelchair. Being almost non verbal she uses music as a way of expressing herself, as she finds lots of activities impossible or very challenging. Not having any sight limits the type of stimulation she can engage in. One of the things music enables her to do is have a choice. Using objects of reference, she can decide if she wants Incy Wincy Spider (using a fluffy spider) or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (using a squeaky rubber star). Since having music therapy Imogen's listening skills have come a long way. She will often listen to you singing, and if you stop mid-way through a verse she will automatically pck up where you left off, which shows her developing a sense of timing. Music is quite simply Imogen's gateway to learning - without this, she would live in a quiet and isolated world.
