Story

I am running the Bath Half as part of S&C Thermofluids 30th anniversary corporate team because for the last 10(?) years I have watched my Dad run, each year wishing I could do it too but "knowing" I couldn't because a) I did absolutely no exercise and b) if I ever did, my back injury soon put me back in my box.

After starting Couch to 5k last year I was feeling very pleased with myself having run for about 3 whole minutes without stopping, and when the time came to watch my Dad do the Bath Half I once again expressed my aspiration to join him. And he said what any supportive parent would say - "its not for you, darling, you can't do it". I can only assume this was indeed a great parenting tactic, as a few weeks later he emailed me to say he had signed me up for 2017 and sure enough I had been training with more determination than ever. And thanks to my miraculous yoga therapist, Flo, my back injury and all its many relatives are getting better all the time.

I'm running for Liberty because it is easy to forget that Human Rights only exist and continue to exist because someone is prepared to defend them. Things that seem black and white can be blurred in an instant if no-one is watching, and we all know we stop watching when we get too busy or just too comfortable. Liberty defends our basic rights in the UK, and campaigns to promote dignity, equal treatment and fairness as foundations of democracy. We need them to work hard for us in 2017!

Liberty's current campaigns that you're helping fund include: saving the Human Rights Act, protecting refugee children, campaigning against border controls in classrooms and making councils protect rather than criminalise vulnerable people. More here: www.liberty-human-rights.org.uk/campaigning
