Story
Thousands of young people struggle with their mental health. They often don’t speak out about it because they are worried about what might happen or they are unsure about who to tell or how to go about it.
We want to change this by showing young people that they deserve to be heard, and that help is available.
Young people should be supported to speak out.
Parents and carers can support young people and offer their support.
Educators and school staff can help students to take positive action.
The H2H team is proud to announce a live 24-hour podcast raising funds for youth charity The Diana Award: providing a spotlight to talk about things that need talking about, shining a light on special guests doing amazing work, and making a real difference to young people across the UK.
The Cause:
Young people are often the most affected by society’s problems.
The Covid-19 pandemic has amplified social inequalities, increased mental health challenges, and reduced employment opportunities. The past two years have also highlighted racial inequalities that exist in the UK and the urgency of the climate emergency.
These effects have been felt most acutely by young people:
4.3 million children living in poverty in the UK in March 2020.
963,000 young people are not in education, employment or training (NEET) in the UK.
One in six children aged five to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem.
Nearly half (46%) young people reported experiencing bullying behaviour in the last 12 months.
Black Caribbean pupils are three times as likely as white peers to be permanently excluded.
The Diana Award creates opportunities for change through:
The Young Changemaker programme - re-imagining mental health support for young people from racialised communities.
The Mentoring scheme - unlocking potential for some of the UK’s most vulnerable young people.
The Anti-Bullying programme - driving change in bullying behaviours and attitudes; for young people, by young people.
The Award programme - recognising young people driving selfless change through action across the world.
The Diana Award is a registered charity (1117288 / SC041916) and a company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales number 5739137.
The Aim:
Our aim is to raise £100 for every hour we are live.
We will be showcasing some amazing guests doing some incredible work, including some fun and laughter along the way.
Join us for the full 24 hours... if you can!
By working together, we can create the change we want to see in the world.
