We create cinemas in hospitals to support patients on the road to recovery

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In May 2023, I am taking part in the first Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon. This will be my second marathon, but first one incorporating some tough Yorkshire hills! I am doing this for both the personal challenge and to support those in need, and was inspired to sign up after seeing Rob at the start line of the Leeds 10K in 2022.

Former Leeds Rhinos player Rob Burrow was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in December 2019. Since then, Rob and his family have campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness and support other families living with MND.  I have decided to continue to fundraise for Medicinema, a charity that improves the difficult reality of life in hospital for patients and their families, providing them with the resilience they need to get through an incredibly difficult time through bringing entertainment services to hospitals. Many patients with complex illnesses including MND are admitted for long periods of time, which cuts them off from life outside the hospital.  Medicinema believes in 'feeling better with film', and the power of film as a form of escapism is something I really believe in.

The marathon route is not going to be easy but if we can all help to fundraise for those less fortunate it'll be 100% worth it! Any support would be hugely appreciated.

Through the latest and best the film industry has to offer, MediCinema utilises the power of cinema to enable patients, many of whom will be experiencing complex and long term hospital stays, to experience some sense of normality and reduce both the isolation and marginalisation they may be feeling.
