Story
Throughout the COVID-19 lockdown my daily pleasure has been the ability to go for a dog walk in and around Macclesfield. This daily exercise has helped me manage my mental health throughout extraordinary circumstances we have all found ourselves in.
Therefore, Macclesfield Dog Lovers would like to join forces and raise money for Windyway Trust, who have continued their amazing work in the rescuing and re-homing of Cats, Rabbits, Chickens, Guinea Pigs and Horses as well as Dogs throughout lockdown.
The tracking of the each walk can be done via a mobile app, i.e. Strava or Fitbit, and uploaded to the Macclesfield Dog Lovers Facebook site. The aim is to walk 603 miles (970 km) collectively, which is the Length of the UK (in a straight line)
** Barclays Bank has agreed to match every pound we raise, up to £1000 **
In additional, walking and pet ownership has been linked to improved mental health and so starting this fundraising event at the start of Mental Health Awareness Week (18/05 to 24/05/20) seems to be a great fit. This fundraising will run from the 15/05/20 to 15/06/20.
WindyWay Trust lockdown impact:
Windyway Trust is a local charity who continue to support the animal rescue work at Windyway Kennels throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The kennels are operating a minimal service with four members of staff, this work includes looking after dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs that were already in our care at the time of the lockdown.
No volunteers are allowed access to the kennels and animals are still arriving for many different reasons, with no prospect of being
rehomed under present restrictions. Our Charity Shops and warehouse are closed and the monies provided by these sources has now ceased.
Our fundraising events have all been cancelled because mass gatherings are prohibited.
The support from our volunteers and donors has been outstanding in these difficult times and without them we would struggle to continue our work.
