Story
Other than his family, Dad's big passion in life was trains, trams and the occasional bus or more unusual forms of transport.
He worked on the railway, travelled all over the country and in Europe on the railway, read about the railway, photographed the railway and even built tiny pieces of railway!
Aside from how much he cared about the railway itself, his interest provided him with the opportunity to meet so many different people and collect friends with similar interests from all over the place.
The joy from his interest and the people it brought into his life was so very important to Dad and we would like to turn our sadness in losing Dad into providing joy for other train enthusiasts.
The Engine Shed is a small charity running special interest groups for autistic children, young people and adults. It provides an inclusive social space for like minded enthusiasts to share their joy.
It is a voluntary group who take model trains to various venues around Reading and Chingford for people to enjoy. That in itself would be enough of a reason but the charity provides volunteering, apprentice and possible employment opportunities for autistic young people and adults.
Any money raised in Dad's memory will go towards providing transport or resources for these sessions to continue - at some point with any luck there may even be a van driving around with his name on it!
