*Gift of sight for only £35!*
I am sure we all know of someone in our family who has had a cataract operation. Here in the UK, the cost is covered by the NHS, Alhamdullilah. In the private sector the average price for this operation ranges from £3000 to £4000.
But what about those that don't have government or family support?
Cataracts are the most common cause of reversible blindness in the world.
A cataract is the cloudiness of the lens of the eye (the clear structure in your eye which focuses the light). It can develop in one or both eyes. This cloudiness becomes worse over time, causing the vision to become increasingly blurry or cloudy, leaving people practically blind in that eye, unable to do even the basics for themselves. A cataract operation costs only £35 in Bangladesh, and it replaces the lens in the eye and it helps bring back their vision. For those in need, this is life-changing!
Good eyesight is something we take for granted. In Bangladesh, you can help to restore the sight of a needy person, for less than the price of a pair of jeans!
Consider the reward, of helping to give back sight to a needy person; for them to be able to see their family and loves ones, look after themselves and of course be able to read the Qur'an.
Those who spend their wealth in the Cause of Allaah, and do not follow up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury, their reward is with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve”
[al-Baqarah 2:261-262]
P.S Make sure to tick the gift aid box if you are a taxpayer- the government will contribute an extra 25% to every donation you make.
