Story
My husband, Wasim and I are fundraising for the MS Society Scotland in memory of our beautiful and beloved sister, Shaista Latif, sadly taken from this temporary world on 27 April 2020 at the young age of 46.
Shaista was diagnosed with MS at the age of 23. Her battle had become so difficult that for the past 3 years she was not even allowed a sip of water. She could not eat and nor could she drink. Her MS had deteriorated to the point where she was peg fed through her stomach, she could not move her body and her speech was badly affected. Her nature was such that she never once complained about her illness or the way her life had been flipped upside down, she never craved for a taste of anything, not even chocolate! Her nature was such that she happily accepted everything. She always smiled and always had something positive to say.
Shaista lived at home but took unwell and was admitted to hospital in September 2019 where she remained right through to 30th December when she was moved to a care home as it was agreed by the medics that her illness had deteriorated to the point where she now required 24 hour care which she couldn't have at home.
On Monday 20th April, Shaista was admitted to the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh with a high temperature and suspected aspirated pneumonia which was a side affect of her MS. As standard practice under the Covid-19 pandemic, she was also tested for coronavirus. The test results came back positive; Shaista had contracted coronavirus in the care home where there had been a lockdown to all visitors from 15 March. She continued to fight as she always did but this time, the aspirated pneumonia with coronavirus on top was far too much for her. She sadly lost the fight and gained her angel wings on Monday 27th April.
We have set up this page in her memory. We hope that with all donations made to MS Society Scotland, more research into this illness can be done and a cure found so that no other family suffers the same plight we have.
Wasim has another sister, Shahida, who is also an MS sufferer and therefore supporting this charity in the hope of a cure, is very important to us as a family.
