Story
Kingsley Napley has been supporting Hackney Foodbank for over 5 years and we are once again collecting donations to support the vital work that they do. For the first time since the pandemic, we will be collecting food donations as well as financial donations. If you would like to donate food items then please use the collection boxes on your floor. Any financial donations would also be gratefully received, big or small.
Hackney Foodbank is aiming to achieve no less than a hunger-free Hackney, where everyone can afford to eat. They support people who are in crisis or trapped in poverty with compassion and dignity. They do this by providing emergency food parcels, which offer practical, immediate relief in moments of crisis, and by connecting people with local organisations who can help them to address the root causes and wider effects of poverty in their lives.
They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
Hackney is the second most densely populated borough of London with a population of 281,100. In 2015, Hackney’s average score (based on LSOAs) make it the 11th most deprived local authority district in England. In both the 2007 and 2010 Indices of Deprivation Hackney ranked as the second most deprived local authority in the country by the same measure.
Since opening, Hackney Foodbank has provided the ingredients for more than 100,000 meals to local people in financial crisis. They are a voluntary organisation and rely on the dedication of the local community to keep going! They work with over 200 local partners and are supported by countless more community organisations through food donations and other means of support.
Further information about the work that they do can be found on their website - https://hackney.foodbank.org.uk/
