Story
I’m a parent of two healthy neurotypical boys. During the last 12 months, despite the lockdowns and disruptions to routines, we have still coped relatively well as a family.
More than one in 100 people in the UK have autism spectrum condition (ASC). ASC affects a persons ability to make sense of the world, to communicate and adjust to change. The pandemic has been very hard on many children and adults with this diagnosis. More than one in 100 people amongst us today, have faced challenges neuro-typical people could barely imagine.
Thanks to charities like Autism East Midlands, they do not have to face these challenges alone..
That's why this Autism Awareness Week I want to show my support to all those the charity helps by walking 100km in 10 days. I know this will be a struggle, I know I will find it painful and tiring. But I also know it will be nothing in comparison to what some people face every day.
Thank you for your support. Helen x
