EBC and beyond - Hazel's heading back!

On 31st March 2012 I flew to Nepal with 24 of my colleagues to trek to Everest Base Camp. One of our team, Roger Owen, went on to summit Mount Everest on 25th May 2012. Together we raised £700,000 for the St. James’s Place Foundation which grants awards to the smaller UK registered charities operating in the UK and abroad.
But that was last year.....this year I am heading out to the mountains for 2 months during which time I will be up and down the trail to Everest Base Camp but also giving something back to the community by building (with some help!) an incinerator for a local monastery in the Khumbu. I will also hopefully be strong enough this time to make it to Kala Pattar and have my picture taken with Everest in the background.
I am also hoping to spend some time at the amazing Malnutrition Centre in Kathmandu that we visited last year and that is supported by the St. James’s Place Foundation.
After that visit, I will be heading back up the trail to Everest Base Camp, this time with Roger aiming to be back there for the anniversary of his ascent.
For my birthday treat this year, I have a flight home with Air India – flying through time zones and ensuring that I make my birthday last 30 hours!
Although this trip isn’t for charity a few people have asked if I am being sponsored, therefore I have revived this link in the hope that we can boost the funds from our amazing trek last year. I will be lucky enough to see first hand just what an amazing job some of this money is able to do.
I also hope to spend some time at the amazing Malnutrition Centre in Kathmandu that we visited last year and that is supported by the St. James’s Place Foundation.
Roger will then be heading out to Kathmandu and I will join him to trek back to Base Camp and visit more projects in the Khumbu, aiming to be at Everest Base Camp for his anniversary.
My birthday present this year is that I am flying home – only I could make my birthday last 30 hours instead of 24 – gotta love flying back through time zones
Although this trek isn’t for charity – a few people have asked if I am being sponsored. My link is still open from last year and I would love to boost the funds as I will be seeing first hand just what an amazing job some of this money is able to do.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
