Involvement with the criminal justice system can impede access to housing, employment, and education which can perpetuate a cycle of poverty for many Americans. To counter the negative impact of criminal cases on those experiencing homelessness, the ABA Commission on Homelessness and Poverty has been bringing the courts to the streets to better connect individuals with needed services and to break down legal barriers. Through charitable gifts and grants, nearly 70 Homeless Court have been established across the United States and reached tens of thousands of individuals.
