Story
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
A group of 8 of us will be collectively walking/running the distance from Punjab to Delhi (400km) in support of the kisaans (farmers) protesting on the borders of Delhi. We will be completing this challenge in 7 days.
Why are the farmers protesting?
With over 250 million protestors worldwide, this is the largest peaceful protest in the history of the world.
Many of you by now have seen news coverage of Farmers in India’s northwest states especially Punjab, known as the bread basket of the nation; marching peacefully for protecting the rights to farming their land, essentially their livelihood. Punjab farmers have taken the lead in this campaign inspiring farmers across the country for having their voice for justice heard in Delhi with the Central Government. Farmers are protesting recent laws enacted by the Central Government fearing:
- Dismantling of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system which will allow big corporate houses to dictate terms and farmers will end up getting less for their crops.
- Disbanding of the Mandi system, they will not get an assured price for their crops
- Undoing of “Arthiyas” – commission agents who also pitch in with loans for them – will be out of business.
All proceeds will go to United Sikhs. They are offering Langar (meals, water), Medical Services (Urgent care, ambulatory support, medications) and PPE needs (Masks, sanitizers) needed during this challenging time. Volunteer teams of professionals and doctors are available from Punjab and Delhi throughout this march. Their legal teams are also ready to serve with any anticipated needs in the coming days.
