Golf For A Cure 2021 · 22 June 2021

We are the sole fundraising arm to support to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh

Story

On Tuesday June 22, 2021 Bruce Berman, Brad Aurila, Chris Branvold and Rick Platt will be playing 100+ holes of golf at Chartiers Country Club. They will be joined by Mark and Nick Trella, Bob Lubert and Brad Latshaw from Seven Oaks Country Club.

As in years past, 100% of the monies raised will go directly to support pediatric cancer research projects. The funds will be directed to developing better treatment pathways and understanding the long term impacts of the current therapies.

Both teams are playing in honor of Meredith Berman, who is 15 years old, and 10 years removed from her final treatments for stage 4 neuroblastoma. While Meredith, and many kids like her, is doing great, these "survivors" face numerous hurdles after beating cancer. Many of the issues are from the treatments themselves, which have lasting physical and emotional issues.

Events like our marathon, as well as other philanthropic donations, are the primary means of funding for pediatric cancer research

With survival rates greatly improving, we need to better understand the long term impacts the disease, as well as the treatments have on these kids.

Dr. Jean Tersak, Director if the UPMC Children's Hospital Survivorship Clinic states it best:

"With so many survivors, we now have the opportunity, not to mention the obligation, to be sure we help cancer survivors to live the healthiest, fullest lives possible as cancer survivors"!
