Story
On May 25th I was due to embark on a river cruise from Budapest to Vienna. As with most other events planned for 2020 this has been cancelled due to Coronavirus pandemic. Inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore and many others who have set themselves a challenge to raise funds for various charities I have set myself a challenge to cycle the distance I would have travelled by boat over the 11 day cruise. The trip is 103 nautical miles which equates to 190 kilometres. I plan to cycle 17 kilometres a day on my exercise bike. In addition I have been challenged to climb Pen y Fan. With a prominence of 2,205 ft I will climb 400 stairs a day on my stair machine and for good measure I am going to complete 300 ski steps a day on the ski machine. My personal triathlon will take place in the summer house with views of my garden replacing the scenery of the Danube, the Brecon Beacons and the Alps.
I am undertaking this challenge to raise funds for The Peggy Dodd Centre which is a charity based in Bath providing day care for people living with memory loss and confusion. The Centre also provides essential support to people who care for these clients.
The Centre has had to close temporarily due to COVID-19. It is losing around £30,000 a month and this is not sustainable. I want the Centre to be there in the future providing much needed care and respite and I hope to raise some funds to support this amazing charity.
