Our precious daughter Jo-Anne Baldock passed away on 16/08/2016 after just a few months of becoming unwell after giving birth to her beautiful baby daughter Molly.  Jo-Anne and her partner Dan already had a son, Jake aged 4 and were delighted to now have a little son and a baby daughter.  They felt their family was complete.  After a few months of giving birth to Molly, Jo-Anne started suffering from adult Acne which became extremely severe.  I visited the gp with Jo-Anne who prescribed various medication, none of which had any affect.  The gp referred her to dermatology at the local hospital and after trying several types of medication, failed to improve the acne.  She was treated for a few weeks with various medications then advised she should try Isotetriotoin, which is a last resort for adult acne.  Jo-Anne agreed and started the medication.  After a few months she started developing pain in her legs, back, arms etc.  The dermatologist did various tests etc but nothing showed up. When no abnormality showed up in any of the tests, Jo-Anne was told the pain was probably due to tiredness and everything a new mum experiences with a new baby.  They said the pain in her back was probably strain, as was all the other pain she was experiencing.  As time went on she started developing red 'tram' like marks over her body.  Jo-Anne collapsed one night and was taken to A&E. She was given ultra scans and lots of other tests which showed up a massive tumour in her abdomen and other tumours in her body.  The tests carried out in the hospital showed results unrecognised by the hospital.  The test results were sent to all the top London Hospitals but nobody could throw any light on them.

Professor Wil Drake at Barts Hospital, London, was on annual leave when Jo-Anne's results were sent to Barts Hospital, (one of the  many hospitals to receive Jo-Anne's results) .  On his return (about 1 week later) he saw and recognised the test results.  He had only ever seen test results like Jo's once before.  No other doctor recognised the results.

Professor Wil Drake requested that Jo-Anne be cared for by his team in Barts Hospital.  She was transferred there immediately but after extensive efforts and care by Professor Drake and his dedicated team, our Angel passed away on 16th August 2016.  She had been ill for a matter of just a few months.

This cancer is an extremely rare cancer.  Professor Drake said his team had thrown every relevant medication 'known to man' at Jo-Anne's cancer without success.  She deteriorated day by day.  After a few weeks Jo-Anne was placed on a ventilator as she could no longer breathe unaided.

Jo-Anne fought a very brave fight for life but before she passed away she asked us try to fight this cancer so that nobody else had to ever go through what she did and leave a family without their Mummy.

There was at the time of Jo-Anne's death no research into this cancer but Dr Akkar and his team at Barts has commenced research into it but needs help with funding.

All funds raised will go directly towards Dr Akkers research.
