Story

Thank you for reading about me and the awesome team at North Dartmoor Search and Rescue who helped me with my 'Big Belstone Tor Challenge'.

I live in beautiful Belstone, and I am very lucky to be able to look at Belstone Tor from my bedroom window!  I looked at it every day and wondered what the view was like from the top!..... But, I never thought I would get to see it as I have Multiple Sclerosis and use a wheelchair to get about.

I do have an all-terrain mobility scooter which gets me tantalizingly close i.e. to the Nine Maidens - from there I can see that magnificent Tor rising above me ....but, out of bounds for even the most hardy mobility scooter! ....Oh, how I had wanted to get to the top of that Tor and now I have!

The wonderful NDSAR team made this dream possible on the 4th September - by stretchering me to the top with my wife Jane walking beside me so we could enjoy a flask of coffee at the top! Just like we did when we used to walk together on other parts of the moor in the past. They also stood me up so I could have my own two feet on the top of that Tor - so awesome - there are no words to explain what that meant to me!

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has so generously donated to this page - and who supported us on the day both in spirit and in person!
The challenge was a day filled with laughter and love - so inspiring to have so many of you share the moment at the top of Belstone Tor -  not a dry eye in the house! The sun shone - the view was magnificent! we got to sit together on a granite rock again - first time in 12 year's - a precious moment! Biggest thanks to NDS&R Team - making dreams come true x

I continue to fund raise for the NDSAR team as they do a vital and difficult job rescuing folks on and around the moor 365 days of the year! They rely entirely on charitable donations - and suffered a £50,000 drop in their income in 2020 due to Covid. Despite this they continue to provide a full service in the most challenging of conditions. They are all volunteers and go out in all weathers - thanks to them we can all enjoy the moor, and surrounding rural areas safely!  They also frequently rescue missing persons e.g. those who have wandered due to dementia and/or mental health issues.

Thank you for supporting NDSR and my challenge!l Lots more info and photos in the updates below and in the gallery.
