Story
Updated 13th July 2020 - With friends, family & colleagues watching at Stratford Hospital, Neil took the clippers to my plaited, ponytailed hair. My hair is long enough to donate to The Princess Trust who will hopefully be able to make a wig for a child 🙏
My new look is certainly different and low maintenance. Together we’ve raised much more than I anticipated and I know SWFT’s Breast Cancer Unit will spend it wisely.
Thank you so much x
When my best friend was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and learnt that she would lose her hair due to the chemotherapy she’d receive, I decided that I wanted to raise funds for South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust's Breast Cancer Fund. Whilst I love baking, I realised it would take a lot of cake sales (currently banned during lockdown too) to raise awareness and funds, so I impulsively said that I’d do something more radical.
And radical to me, with long, curly hair is to Brave the Shave instead.
My friend is receiving care and being supported by a wonderful team at Stratford and Warwick Hospitals. The cancer unit is in need of a new chair that is a lot more manoeuvrable and comfortable to help women get into the best position to obtain a good mammogram. But a chair like this costs £700. However, I want to raise £1000 so that the remaining money will support women undergoing treatment, as well as supporting staff to attend educational courses.
As soon as I hit £700 I shall liaise with my gorgeous hairdresser Neil Shaw at Room 09 Salon in Stratford to arrange to get a number one cut (eek)! And Jake, one of my colleagues from Warwick Hospital will be there to video it.
SWFT Charity funds enhancements beyond the NHS standard for Warwick, Leamington Spa, Stratford and Ellen Badger Hospital as well as out of hospital community services across the whole of Warwickshire. With your help we can make our services the best that they can be for patients, families and carers when they need it most. Any support that you are able to give to our charity will make such a difference and adds valuable support for developments, departments and wards across South Warwickshire and beyond.
Thank you for your support x
