Story
I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro from the 7th September 2015 for the Meningitis Research Foundation, a charity very close to my heart. The trek, which will take us through 5 ecosystems, will lead us to the soaring peak of 5895m. This will be the hardest challenge on my life so far.
The Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) funds research into, and raises awareness of both Meningitis and Septicaemia across Britain and Northern Ireland.
10 people contract Meningitis in the UK every day, and 1 of these 10 will die from the disease. 4 of the remaining 10 will be left with life altering disabilities including limb loss and permanent loss of hearing.
With the money I and others fundraising for the MRF raise, 17 research projects are funded. This has so far lead to the genetic profiling of every meningitis bacterium, vital for the development of new vaccines. But further, money can be invested in spreading awareness to high-risk groups, including students like myself.
I have sadly had personal experience of the effects of Meningitis, especially in new-born babies. In 2008, my baby cousin Luca, aged just 17 days, died from Meningitis with Septicaemia. With greater awareness and treatment, possible only with kind donations from people like you, lives like Luca’s can be saved in the future.
I hope, if you are able to, you will help me by donating to this worthwhile charity.
