WHY we’ve chosen Lumos as our charity for the Gym Open day on Sunday 29th May 👍
Anybody who keeps abreast of the news, knows that the war in Ukraine has gotten worse and worse.
Yes, there are wars and suffering all over the world, but when it’s beamed directly to you, rightly or wrongly, the realities hit home more.
Perhaps as parents, the sheer idea of how something as tragic as this is, resonates more with us as a team.
But it’s not “just” kids suffering that seems to have struck a chord within the team.
It’s the idea that over 100,000 small children are in orphanages and similar institutions across Ukraine.
And when bombing etc occurs, it becomes infinitely more likely that those children, who’ve already had to face live without a ‘proper’ upbringing in a stable environment, will lose contact with their carers, and become lost or displaced - and potentially end up with nobody actually knowing who they are or where they’re from!!!
Lumos; the charity we’ve chosen for our fund raising event, aims to achieve 3 main things based on the above:
1. Prevent family separation
Support children in orphanages, such as those with disabilities, who may be left behind, and help keep children with their families.
2. Pyschological support
Provide psychological support to children affected by the conflict
3. Send resources to vulnerable families
Send emergency food, hygiene and medical kits
