Jump for Angie!
On Saturday 1st July 2017 (date subject to change, weather dependent) I will be doing a tandem skydive with the Army Parachuting Association at Netheravon to raise money for the Rowans Hospice, in memory of my wife’s cousin Angela Cowell who died after a short, aggressive, painful fight with cancer aged 53, She spent her final days at the Rowans where she received the first class palliative care she deserved.
It seems a fitting tribute to Angie to raise money for the Hospice, she took part in numerous funding raising events for charity, many of which were for the Rowans, including abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth. I’m confident that if she was still with us, she would be jumping with me and probably be first out the plane!
I first met Angie back in 2006, a few months after first meeting my wife Julie, at a family gathering, and from the start she always made myself and my 2 daughters who were then aged 7 and 11 feel very welcome. This continued over the years that we knew her, always making the effort to talk and becoming not only family but also a friend. I have a very fond memory of turning Julie into a “golf widow” whilst away on holiday celebrating my in-laws golden wedding anniversary, sneaking off with Angie to play numerous rounds of pitch and putt!
During her life she had an already long career working for the MOD for over 30 years, and a lifelong commitment to volley ball earning 53 caps playing for England and sitting 24th on the all time players list for her country.
When she stopped competing she went on to become Team Manager for England Senior Women and GB. This really is only a brief caption of Angie’s volleyball career so please follow the link below to read more.
