Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was diagnosed with ITP a little over 5 years ago and I remember it being a very daunting time, not knowing anything about the disease and being told I could go home if I didn't do anything, which to my dismay meant no household chores! I was prescribed a high dose of steroids which raised my platelets slightly but the side effects weren't very pleasant, theses included not sleeping, always hungry, weight gain, moon face and a few more that were not so nice. But these were nothing compared to when it was time to stop taking them.
Over the last few years I have been prescribed several other treatments, including a form of chemo therapy but none have been successful in keeping my platelet count at a safe level. Having tried most drugs for my condition, there are not that many, I am having to self manage it until they find something that works.
This disease has changed my life and meant that I have had to give up some of my hobbies which included off-roading where I had to sell my Land Rover 110 and riding motorcycles. I also now have to be mindful not to take any unnecessary risks for fear of causing internal bleeding.
This is why, instead of asking for wedding presents we are asking for donations to the ITP Support Association along with Sharon's chosen charity, so that money raised may help others in fighting these life changing diseases.
