Story
Whilst many other key workers have been getting the recognition they so richly deserve during the COVID-19 crisis, it's easy to overlook those that are working hard to support us away from our shores: our seafarers.
The logistical challenges created by COVID-19 have created a wide range of difficulties for seafarers, such as having to remain on vessels for longer periods than would usually be deemed tolerable, being stranded at foreign ports without arrangements to get home, or having no access to shore-leave or fundamental shoreside assistance.
In recognition of this, Seafarers UK have launched their COVID-19 Emergency Appeal, full details of which can be found here: https://www.seafarers.uk/covid-19-emergency-appeal/
I am raising money for the COVID-19 Emergency Appeal by attempting to (virtually) row from one notable European maritime city to another: London (Tilbury) to Rotterdam. From the relative comfort of my rowing machine at home, I will aim to complete the 158nm (equivalent to 292.61km), bit by bit, in the shortest time my body and real life will allow me to (I'm aiming for a month, but please don't hold me to that!).
