Story

This year GWRFC Ladies have decided to throw our weight behind a nominated team charity, to help those less fortunate in the local area by #tacklingpoverty .

We have lots of events and initiatives planned to raise funds for the charity, and will use this page to accept online donations from those who would like to support our efforts!

Our nominated charity for the 2019-2020 season is Children in Poverty Inverclyde.

Children in Poverty Inverclyde was formed in January 2014 to significantly assist in the alleviation of poverty on children in Inverclyde, where nearly 1000 children are classified as being in poverty, by providing support through donated new clothing, educational books and toys.

Their main thrust is in the provision of holidays for Inverclyde families in poverty to the beautiful scenic location of Hunters Quay Holiday Park on the Cowal Peninsula. Here, children and their families will enjoy great facilities with recreational and outdoor activities where they can fee stimulated, energised, laugh and get them interested in life. All of these children would not get to experience such joy without the Charity and the generosity of its' donors.

There should not be people living with nothing, in destitution, in a country as prosperous as Scotland. There should not be parents going without food to feed and clothe their children.

There should not be almost 24% of children in Inverclyde who likely will not have a holiday, will not be clothed properly and who constantly feel marginalised.

Our values as a team fit strongly with the values of the charity, which are to Tackle Poverty, Improve Health, Promote Equality and Encourage Participation.

Throughout the season you will see the girls raising funds for the charity in many different ways, and we would be grateful for any and all support received to help us meet our target of fundraising enough money to send a whole family on holiday.

About the charity

1000 children in Inverclyde will not have a holiday, not be clothed properly and feel marginalised. Britain is the sixth largest economy in the world with more millionaires than ever,so why have 330,000 food parcels been handed out to hungry children, with Inverclyde accounting for 4000 of these parcels. It’s time to think Mission statement: Tackle Child Poverty Promote Equality Stimulate Children Encourage Participation Poverty can have a profound impact on the child, their family, and the rest of society. It often sets in motion a deepening spiral of social exclusion, creating problems in education, employment, mental and physical health and social interaction.
