On 9th September 2023 along with my husband Tom, I am completing the Thames Bridges Trek, a 25km walk across 16 bridges of London starting at Putney Bridge and finishing in Southwark. September is blood cancer awareness month and we are hoping to raise money for the charity MPN Voice which supports people with rare blood cancers, a cause which literally runs through my veins!! 

Two years ago, I received the unexpected & shocking news that I have a rare blood cancer known as an MPN. Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are a spectrum of blood cancers ranging from mild to more aggressive. They affect the bone marrow, destabilising the body’s ability to control blood cell levels and can rocket blood cell counts up, or push counts down to extremely low levels. Experts are still unsure as to what causes MPNs and researchers in the field hope to understand more about the mechanisms behind these diseases so that they can offer people with MPNs better treatments and ultimately a cure.

Throughout my diagnosis and beyond, I have received wonderful support from MPN Voice, a UK charity dedicated to supporting those with MPNs as well as researching and raising awareness of these rare blood cancers and I am hopeful that one day, their research will lead to a future cure.
