A Heritage Plaque to Celebrate the Bank of Toronto (1914 - 1965) and Guild Park’s Greek Theatre (1982 - present)
Join us in commemorating the story about a landmark bank in downtown Toronto and how its marble features became a popular classical-style outdoor stage atop the Scarborough Bluffs .
Volunteers from Friends of Guild Park, in partnership with Heritage Toronto, are raising donations for an official Heritage Toronto plaque that celebrates:
• the historic 1914 Bank of Toronto and its hand-carved columns, arches and panels;
• the people who preserved and repurposed the building’s architectural features ; and
• the resulting Greek Theatre that’s now a destination in east Toronto for the public and performers.
Over the past century, the significance of the Bank of Toronto building has faded. The remarkable steps taken to save its elements and create today’s one-of-a-kind Greek Theatre risk being forgotten.
By donating to this campaign for a Heritage Toronto plaque at Guild Park’s Greek Theatre, you’ll help bring back to life this important – and largely overlooked – story of the city’s development and Toronto’s architectural history.
All donations of $20 or more are eligible for official tax credit issued by Heritage Toronto. Opportunities for sponsor recognition are also available.
