Story
Freya was born on 7th August 2011 but became poorly only seven days later. We took her to Frimley Park Hospital to be checked and it soon became apparent that Freya had a serious infection. That evening it was confirmed she had meningitis and septicaemia. Freya spent the next two weeks in Frimley's Special Care Baby Unit receiving treatment around the clock. Freya has since made a full recovery and is developing very well as a happy, active baby.
Freya was very lucky to have been diagnosed so quickly and the treatment and care she received in SCBU was first class. We cannot truly express our gratitude but we would like to say thank you, and help to ensure that other sick babies receive the same critical care. Freya's dad Tim and uncle Greg will be running the Frimley Park Hospital 10km road race on 6th May 2012 to raise money for the SCBU Saving Tiny Lives Appeal. For Greg this will be a good chance to warm up before running the Berlin Marathon in September!
Frimley Park's Special Care Baby Unit is moving to a bigger ward so they can help even more babies and all funds raised from the race will be used buy equipment and furnishings. In particular the hospital hopes to buy a head ultrasound machine which was just one of the many pieces of equipment that played a part in Freya's treatment and recovery.
