Story
As a group of six proud Derry Girls, living across the world, we are partaking in a 24-hour sponsored silence to raise critical funding for Foyle Women's Aid. This will take place on the 16th May 2020.
Many victims suffer domestic abuse in silence, and organisations across the country provide a vital lifeline to those who find themselves in a coercive and abusive situation. In the current crisis, victims are trapped in their homes with their abusers - we cannot even begin to imagine how horrific this is.
Since the start of the Covid-19 lockdown, there have been three domestic killings in Northern Ireland. Police have also noted a rise in reports of domestic abuse.
Foyle Women's Aid provides critical support to women and their children in the Derry/Londonderry area, from emergency accommodation, to supporting children and teenagers, as well as helping with court procedures. They are a voice and support to so many victims who have suffered in silence.
Please dig deep in supporting our cause.
Thank you,
Treasa Harkin, Michelle Elliott, Emma McKinney, Aoibheann Gillespie-Mules, Colleen Coulter, Jenny Mc Callion (and Connie Gerrow - honorary Derry Girl).
