Story
In memory of our brother - aircraft fanatic Leslie Millar
You will be helping us change lives for the better by providing anyone with any disability access to aviation. Thank you.
We are paying tribute to my baby brother Leslie who passed away Thursday 27th January 2022 at 10:15pm. He was born deaf, couldn’t speak, had no ears, no balance, tunnel vision, paralysed face and could not shut his eyes or his mouth. He was affected by the Thalidomide drug. Our entire family of 5 were impacted by its far reaching and life changing effects. We were poor, lived in a slum room and kitchen in Edinburgh for the first 4 years of my life. Leslie was born in my 3rd year. I didn’t know he existed until I was 5. They thought he would die. Yet he lived and was put into care until he was 16. We rarely saw him, but when we did, we connected. We invented our own sign language, we were joined at the hip, I protected him from the stares and the name calling. He looked different and people were cruel. But, Leslie helped make me the person and the later businessman I became. That need to make a difference, to think of others before self, to succeed not financially, but by making an impact. The world is full of people like Leslie. Someone who was severely disabled, yet developed an inner voice, an independent mind and who was brave, bright and the living embodiment of turning adversity into super strengths. Someone to be hugely proud of. Thank you Leslie you made me whole.
His funeral is on Monday 28th February 2022 at 11am at Daldowie Crematorium East. Rather than flowers, please donate funds to help change other disabled lives with Aerobility. Why them? Because, Leslie was extremely knowledgable and passionate about airplanes, flights and all that they entail - and he would love you for helping.
Aerobility changes lives by providing anyone with any disability with access to aviation. They do this because it drives a focus on capabilities and it encourages the student to ask ‘if I can fly an aeroplane, what else can I do?’ Please help us send anyone with a disability skywards in memory of our superhero.
RIP our beautiful baby brother - fly high xxx
