Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
You are here because Gordon: our Husband, Father, Grandfather, Mentor, Uncle, Friend and Teacher left a lasting memory. One that should be celebrated - in his example - with meaning.
Gordon had many passions but the one we, as a family, believe to have left a lasting legacy was teaching and his commitment to share his learning.
He was a man that forged his own path through education and embraced the opportunities his personal development brought; Instead of the path laid out for him.
Gordon studied, moved to and furthered his education in Birmingham, from there his work and research contributed to the development of a form of Penicillin - a meaningful achievement and one we're proud to say he played a part in.
Later in his life (up until this year) he taught students across Birmingham, from KS2 to A level Chemistry, Physics and Maths to name a few (He'd try his hand at any 'problem!') He would often jump cross-discipline and age groups from lesson to lesson on a Saturday. Demonstrating the determined, brilliant mind he had and the great belief in his students and their potential.
The Access Project support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. The project works with them to make good applications, get the grades and transition to university.
For this reason, we will be donating and welcome friends, family and student alumnus to donate in his memory to the project.
We are devastated to have to share the death of Gordon Featherstone. After 85 years of laughter, joy, tuition and adventure. The cancer Gordon had kept at bay had unexpectedly spread to his bones this year.
He was a man that felt that if you could do something for others, you had an obligation to do so - this was reflected not only in the young people he tutored - but all who had the pleasure to know his generous nature.
We could all fill a book in celebrating the memory of Gordon; we welcome your own memories and hope you all carry his momentum and share what you know!
Please do mention Gordon in your message - we are excited to see how much we can collectively raise for such a great cause.
