Story
Hi,
I am Flo.
Until very recently, I have struggled with the consequences
of long covid and low stamina, which have impacted my ability to function
normally in everyday life.
In many ways this condition has left me unable to enjoy
doing a lot of the activities that I had once enjoyed doing. During my long recovery battle, I had my
furry companion to thank, for keeping me going and helping me push forward.
My dog was not a trained therapy/ assistance dog, but in her
own way, she has supported me throughout a lot of physical and mental hardship.
For that, I will always be grateful!
Today, I am in a better place with my overall health and
well-being, and I want to set a challenge for myself, by taking on the 25km
Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge, and fundraise to help others.
I strongly believe in the healing power of dogs, which is
why I have dedicated time in researching and choosing a charity, for which I
would like to fundraise as part of the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge-
Quarter Challenge (Saturday,18 May 2024), and which resonated with
my personal beliefs. Dogs may not be able to physically cure people, but they
can sure aid those in need, improving people`s overall wellbeing.
Research let by the University of York, found: ” assistance dogs for deaf people significantly
improve wellbeing, mental health and independence, and reduce social isolation
and fearfulness.”
This takes me to the next step of introducing you to my
fundraising charity of choice.
Who are Dogs for Good?
Dogs for Good believes in the power of dogs.
Since 1988, Dogs for Good has been making life-changing
differences for people with disabilities. The charity supports people with
complex needs including physical disabilities, autism, dementia and learning
disabilities enabling them to lead more independent lives through the help of
trained dogs.
They receive over 5,000 enquiries a year and it costs more
than £22,000 to train and support each assistance dog. With your sponsorship,
they can create more life-changing partnerships.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Flo 😊
